Surf's Up

This model is inspired by Jeremy Shafer's model of a surfer, but I took out the wave from his original design and just had the surfer and board. I folded a Miura-pattern-inspired wave to take the place though. It was pretty hard to fold the wave because getting the angles correct while also creasing symmetrically through all layers was difficult with the thickness of the paper.
The Miura Pattern itself is a very popular design both in origami design and real applications. Hoyjo Takashi's Aquarius model is very popular and uses this exact pattern I used for the wave. Jeremy Shafer also makes a lot of models using this pattern, namely flashers and origami toy models. But the Miura Pattern has also been used in stuff like bulletproof shields, bridges, and other architectural applications.
